I must not have been the only one who was surprised because while I rushed up to the photo pit, fans were rushing from the bar back to the venue floor to watch the show and, in some cases, to start moshing again. As soon as I realized they were playing, I rushed up to the photo pit to get some pictures of them. While waiting for the last set, the venue began playing music over the speakers–first Fall out Boy, then some My Chemical Romance, and then a System of a Down song came on…or at least, that’s what I thought it was.Īs it turns out, August Burns Red opened their set with a cover of “Chop Suey”, which was definitely something I wasn’t expecting. Next up was Hollow Front who hyped up the crowd’s energy even higher–so high, in fact, that some of the crowd started up a mosh pit.Įach of these bands brought so much energy to the stage that they could’ve easily been mistaken as a headlining act, so I was definitely excited to see how the next two bands performed.īy the end of the third set, I didn’t know how the crowd was going to keep up their energy levels but even in the brief period between We Came as Romans and August Burns Red, everyone remained excited and energetic. Lead vocalist, Jack Bergin had a fantastic stage presence and looked as though he was born to be a performer. Void of Vision was up first and they got the show off to a fantastic start with their immediate energy. The first two acts to take the stage were Void of Vision and Hollow Front–both of whom I hadn’t heard before so I had no idea what to expect from either of them. ![]() Not only was August Burns Red fantastic, but all of their openers were equally as amazing. This was my first time seeing them perform live and, I won’t lie, I briefly debated whether it was actually worth it to go to a concert on a Tuesday night when I had to go to work the next morning. Thankfully for me though, it wasn’t a lie and I got the chance to see them at one of their recent stops on their Through the Thorns tour. August Burns Red will be a band that I will see time and time again without hesitation. If you told my middle school self that she’d eventually be photographing August Burns Red, she would’ve probably called you a liar. But their performance far exceeded my expectations. It should come as no shock that a band that’s been in the industry for nearly two decades knows how to put on a spectacular well calculated show. ABR surprised everyone when they quickly resurfaced to perform not one, but three encores. But fans vehemently protested and began riotously chanting “one more song, one more song”. They gave fans 30 more minutes of face melting melodies before ending with their massive hit Composure. ![]() Once their heartfelt metal-sermon was over the band jumped right back in to their set list without pause. Luhrs went on to remind fans to live in the moment and that they should never be afraid to be their authentic selves. Frontman Jake Luhrs even took a moment to thank security for keeping up with the mass amount of crowd surfers.Īfter giving their all for nearly 30 minutes the band took a brief pause to talk to the audience and express their appreciation for their fans continued support over the last 20 years. ![]() To be expected, the mosh pit now consumed a large portion of the venue and the crowd surfing was never ending. ![]() As they made their way through the set list their energy ignited a flame in the crowd that couldn’t be extinguished. While standing in the photo pit I was left in awe by the bands stage presence, as it filled the entirety of stage and venue. Just as the rowdy Tennessee crowd finished grabbing water and taking a second to cool down, the intro to Chop Suey! began to ring throughout the venue and August Burns Red burst on to stage in a sea of red lights.
